Hace poco más de 10 años, en un programa especial de dos horas para la estación 1st Wave, de SiriusXM, Robert Smith (de The Cure) enumeró sus 30 canciones preferidas de la década de los 80s.
En aquella legendaria emisión, el compositor de "Lovesong" presentó todas y cada una de las canciones que más le fascinan de la década ya mencionada, en la cual The Cure también manifestó su mayor efervescencia creativa, con obras como Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me y Disintegration.
Su selección abarca una gran variedad de nombres y géneros musicales: de Pixies y Peter Gabriel hasta The Sugarcubes, The Pretenders y New Order. Todo indica que Smith estaba muy al tanto de lo que sus contemporáneos hacían, y su cuidadosa selección es muestra de ello:
